Once you have landed in Namibia and been to the 4x4hire travel office. You can begin planning your journey through the region. You have barren coastlines and nature reserves to choose from. Another destination you may want to visit in the diamond rich country is Oranjemund. Please note that outside visitors to this enclave need to get special permits from the Diamond Company. Security is very tight because of the precious gems mined here. Oranjemund, lies at the river mouth of the fierce Orange River. This unique almost scale-model town, is the result of the massive diamond corporation. The beautifully kept gardens and green lawns, contrast with the surrounding harsh semi-desert location. With virtually no unemployment amongst its population of 8000 people, crime is non-existent. All staff members and their families receive subsidized housing and health care. The school have excellent playing fields and students receive high class education. Extra mural activities include golf lessons on the well maintained golf course. Rugby is popular and some of South Africans rugby heroes have originated from here. The whole town is in some or other way involved in the business of diamond mining and “all in all” this entire place could be a role model for towns throughout South Africa.
