Travel from Windhoek Airport: Hosea Kutako International to Canon Lodge in the Fish River Canyon in your car rental.

It is like our very own Grand Canyon.

Fish Eagles and Black Eagles can be spotted, swirling high above on the thermals, as you hike on the river bed. Skittish wild horses can also be seen, galloping along the river. Mountain Zebra and various antelope also inhabit the canyon.

This fantastic venue has 30 Bungalows to offer.

Inside the bungalows, which are built into the native rock? Big granite boulders bulge into the rooms. Much like a "Flintstones" house, these organic dwellings have exquisite private ablutions with all the mod-cons. A four legged bath stands against the bare rock wall which forms part of curved ceiling of granite.

A converted old farmhouse serves as The Lodge Restaurant. Great meals and the dining area offers spectacular views of the Fish River Canyon.
Even the swimming pool has been given the same natural-rock treatment. A huge boulder forms part of the pool and affords you a great view of the canyon.

Things of interest do at the lodge:

  • Horse Riding
  • Canyon Drive
  • Sun-downer drive: An open Land rover deposits you at a vantage point with a fantastic view of the setting sun on the canyon
  • Sunrise Walk: This activity is definitely for the early bird. You be taken, while it is still dark on a short drive to where you begin the walk and while you are still coming to grips with being awake so early, the magic will begin to happen. You will see the sunrise like never before. The dark canyon walls transform as the African rises silently over the canyon, the walls take on a myriad shades of warm colours, from dusty pink, to hot orange
  • Morning Walk: takes a 3 hour guide trek so ensure you have adequate drinking water

The directions for the lodge are:
After leaving Windhoek, travel along the B1 road in a Southerly direction for about 500 km, turning right, finally onto the B4 road which heads toward the town of Luderitz.

Next you need to turn left onto the C12 road at Seeheim and thereafter travel roughly 70 km before taking a right into the 601 road.
Canyon lodge is located further on, by turning left on the road 324 to Ai-Ais.house.

The Canyon Mountain Camp:
This camp site is perfect if you are travelling as a small group and wish to extra privacy. The Canyon Mountain Camp is smaller with 8 serviced rooms with 16 beds. There are clean communal showers and toilets. You will also have communal kitchen area and dining room at your disposal. A thatched lapa makes for cosy evenings under the stars.
