Nelspruit has, over the years become significant tourism centre; and Nelspruit’s Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport is roughly 22 kilometres from the actual city. This is convenient for those people visiting the country for a limited time period, but still wish to spend a few days at the nature reserve, Although this is a petite airstrip compared to other flight centres in South Africa, car hire at Nelspruit airport has a wide range of different hire cars to choose from. Once you have car keys in hand and the luggage is packed you can head on an African safari at the Kruger Park.
The Orpen gate is the most central gate to the Kruger national park. Please check the opening times of the gates as they may vary during the summer and winter seasons. Once in the aprk there are lodges and various camps to have overnight stays at. Many of the camps within the park offer game drives in open game viewing vehicles. For the more adventurous there are also game walks, that not only give you opportunity to see things you would usually not see from a moving vehicle but also makes you appreciate some of the fauna and flora and insect life that make up the fragile ecosystem of the reserve.
