Pomona is the suburb adjacent to the OR Tambo airport for convenience and location

The freight and container storage companies have encroached on Pomona and adjacent suburbs, once farm lands and made it their home. Because of the nearby location of the airport, a lot of guest houses and various overnight Airport Accommodation venues have sprung up.

Car rental and campervan hire is also available in the industrial section of this neighbourhood. So with this in mind you could easily hire a car and find suitable accommodation within a short distance to the airport. The Emperors Palace casino is conveniently placed next to the airport and has some fantastic eateries like:

Aurelia's at the D'Oreale Grande Hotel or Tribes Restaurant. While Aurelia's serves excellent German food, the Tribes Restaurant offers traditional African fusion meals.

The airport is fairly central, so even if you are on a short time schedule, there are places of interest to visit nearby.

The apartheid museum:
A place to visit if you wish to better understand the turmoil of South African history. Scores of photographs and various film footage of the violent clashes between South African police and black demonstrators, against apartheid. Old signage depicting the extent of racial discrimination and reams of printed information are found throughout the displays on exhibit.

The museum is in close proximity to the wonderful, family entertainment venue of Gold Reef City.

The Lesedi Cultural Village:
When you arrive at this novel place you are made to feel like and early African explorer. A warm, friendly welcome with a complimentary drink starts your tour. The four major tribal groups, Basotho, Zulu, Pedi and Xhosa are represented, at the village.

These divisions are apparent from the different abodes and style of building from natural materials. The Ndebele murals, with their geometric bright coloured patterns and lines add gaiety to the mud walls.

You will also get to enjoy the different, albeit primitive music and dances from the African continent.

The Lesedi Cultural Village was founded in 1993. The site was set up to provide genuine examples of the many, characteristics of African tribes’ traditional way of life.
