The public transport is virtually non-existent, so having a rental car is a must if you wish explore the wonderful Garden Route region. George has plenty to offer the casual visitor in around the surrounding areas. Within a few kilometres radius you can go on nature trails, canoe up the river or camp at the many sites that abound in the district. A favourite pastime by locals is to pack picnic baskets with goodies and head off into one of the many forests surrounding George and have an undisturbed day in nature. For the more adventurous there are walking trails available suited for different fitness levels? Be warned these trails can be arduous and one should think carefully before heading off into the woodland unprepared. Take a hat, lots of liquid and light snacks that can fit into a day pack, also be sure to inform the lodge where you are staying what your plans are and where you will be heading for the walk.
