Feather duvets or a night under the stars, Durban has it all!

The Kwa-Zulu Natal coastline is the holiday destination for many South African and foreign tourist alike.

The airport is modern and has excellent car hire facilities. The weather is almost sub-tropical and has some really fine beach resorts.

First class hotels to rustic back-packers, can be found on either the North or South coast.

Campervan and caravan parks can also be found in most of the sea-side towns. So weather you wish for five star luxuries or you are trying to be thrifty with your holiday budget, the Natal coast has something for everyone.

The holiday resorts cater for every need, the camps sites are equipped with electric outlets and wash up facilities. One needs only to park your campervan or caravan on one of the grass sites and plug into the power outlet.

Well trained staff will set the wheels level and set up the awning for you. In places like Winkelspruit or Scottsburough, you need only arrive in your car and you can either hire a caravan or a modest chalet. In this manner you will have the freedom to travel up and down the coast in your rental car.

Amanzimtoti is predominantly awash with holiday flats, and accommodation units. If you choose to visit during the low season, the prices are extremely cheap. The seasonal rates for holiday accommodation are governed by the school holidays and summer breaks. A week or two before or after said times are usually cheaper and less crowded.

The freeways in Natal are very well maintained and are a pleasure to drive on. It is only when you travel further South than Port Shepston, do the roads begin to take on the rough African guise. Once you cross the border into Transkei, there is a marked difference in the landscape and road surfaces.

The Wild Coast Sun hotel is still easily accessible with a normal sedan car. However deeper into the Transkei at places like Pondoland for example, you are best advised to rent a 4x4 vehicle as the roads become more rural. These vehicles will allow you to get really close to the shore line so you can enjoy the Wild Coast. The rugged beaches are pristine, and you won’t find ice-cream hawkers or tanned lifeguards here.

Due to the lack of light pollution, the night sky in the Transkei is phenomenal. A beach barbeque, with freshly caught fish and mussels, under a star filled sky is an unforgettable experience.
